Marathi Abhyas Kendra has filed an online petition against the brutal murder of members of the Jadhav family in Javkhed Khalsa in Ahmednagar district of Maharashtra. The media has extensively reported about the petition. People from various strata of the society have supported this petition.
While supporting the petition eminent writer Arun Sadhu and Dr. Kumar Anil have given a written statement regarding the nature of punishment demanded in the petition. Arun Sadhu has said that demanding capital punishment in a petition addressed to the governor would amount to interfering in the judicial process. Dr. Kumar Anil agrees that the Javkhed incident is brutal to the core. However the demand for capital punishment is fascist according to him. The petition provide only two options - support or not to support. There may be people who want to support the petition but are reluctant as they do not support capital punishment. Therefore the demand for capital punishment should be reconsidered.
Marathi Abhyas Kendra is aware of the fact that society at large wants maximum possible punishment for the culprits in the incident. Even dignitaries like Arun Sadhu and Kumar Anil are on the same page. Therefore we are revising the earlier demand of capital punishment and asking form maximum possible punishment.
